The basics

What is a guarantee of origin?

A guarantee of origin (GO) is the official certificate attesting that one kilowatt-hour of electricity was produced by a given plant, for example solar or hydro. In Switzerland it is issued by Pronovo and used for electricity disclosure: it is what allows a supplier or a company to declare consumption of renewable origin.
